Retiree Club
Our retirees built our union
Local 1611 retirees created the foundation of our Union. The current terms and conditions in our Collective Agreements can be attributed to our retirees and the workers who came before us. Our retirees fought and lobbied, faced bullying, death threats, job loss and dangerous working conditions to ensure non-discriminatory, fair wages and safer conditions to future workers. Although our retired members are removed from the workforce, their role now is even more important.
THE ROLE OF RETIREES IS EVEN MORE IMPORTANT TODAY…
Local 1611 retired members’ role is to mentor our existing and future membership. It is important our members share the struggles and achievements that brought us through the dark history of the Labour Movement and educate the future working generations.
OUR RETIREE CLUB CONTINUES TO BE THE LARGEST IN NORTH AMERICA
Local 1611 has one of the largest and most active Retiree Clubs in North America. Our retired members continue to be involved with the Union through charitable efforts and by attending meetings and social gatherings with their fellow Union brothers and sisters.
